Manheim Southern California currently operates wholesale auto auctions in Fontana and has done so since 1985. Due to high demand, Manheim expanded their company this year by opening a new 25-acre auction facility targeted to serve customers in the market of pre-owned boats, RVs and heavy equipment. The new building is located at 11087 Elm Avenue, less than a mile away from the original building.

The company was established over 60 years ago and has grown to operating
130 locations worldwide. In 1945, Manheim hosted its first auto auction
in Manheim, Pennsylvania and over the next 40 years acquired several
auto auctions and dealerships, growing to 25 auctions nationwide. In the
mid 90’s, Manheim was the first in industry to give auto dealers online access to
auction inventories, sales calendars, and market information. Today,
Manheim is viewed as the world’s largest provider of used auto services
as the company handled approximately 10 million used vehicles last year.
The Fontana community greatly benefits from Manheim Southern
California. Not only do the tax revenues benefit the City and other
government entities, such as Fontana Unified School District and Fontana
Fire Protection District, but the customers who visit Manheim
contribute to the local economy. Their contribution comes in the form of
lodging, dining and tourism in the City of Fontana. This is because
Manheim attracts buyers and visitors from outside the region including
national and international customers. There are approximately 300 weekly
visitors that stay an average of two nights at local hotels. This is
great news to businesses like the Hilton Garden Inn which is a prime
recipient of these visitors because of the close proximity to Manheim.
In
2009, Manheim contributed to generating 489 directly employed jobs
and 370 contract jobs as well as over $46
million of economic impact for the Inland Empire region. Additionally, 22% of Manheim’s
workforce are residents of Fontana which is more than any other city in
the region.
As a member of Fontana's business community, Manheim demonstrates their drive to protect
the environment and give back to residents by participating in
various events including fund raising and after-school tutoring programs
at local schools, as well as alternative energy and conservation
efforts. Manheim recently contributed their support to the Fontana
community by participating as a platinum sponsor of the Fontana Days
Run.
Overall, Manheim Southern California has greatly impacted the
City of Fontana’s economy through employment, direct sales and customer
visits. 2009 has proved successful for Manheim with over $46 million in
economic impact to the Inland Empire region of Southern California and over $500,000 in revenues to the City of Fontana. Over the next 10 years, regional economic impact from Manheim
is projected to be $577 million with over
$6 million in direct revenues to the City of Fontana.
